Bula Barua Travels to Kentin, Taiwan for Non-Profit Work
In April 2013, Bula Barua flew to Taiwan to attend the Kentin Spring Scream Music Festival. This festival is attended by more than 200,000 youth and is known for the illicit usage of drugs and alcohol. Bula partnered with non-profits The Way to Happiness and Truth About Drugs to launch an anti-drug campaign with a beautiful stage in the heart of the Spring Scream Music Festival. Taiwanese celebrity singers and performers were there to support the campaign. Bula’s custom Fine Art books were also on display, and she autographed them for the gracious Taiwanese people. The group led marches into the city, chanting “Say NO to drugs! Say YES to Rock and Roll!” (in Chinese, of course).
The campaign was a huge success. It made the front page of over 19 newspapers in Taiwan, Japan and China. In addition, for the first time, no needles were found at the Kentin Spring Scream Music Festival. In addition, the drug usage was drastically lowered.
"I am so proud of our group and the work we are doing in Taiwan. I have fallen in love with the people and culture of Taiwan. It is one of the most calming countries I've been to. I want to see this country flourish and prosper." ~ Bula Barua
